Features that I love about this garden.
1. It is affordable and possible to make for many budgets.
2. It is funky.
3. The water feature flows along the ground where you would have your feet, so on a hot day you can keep your feet cool in the water.
4 the water rolls off of the stone into a catchment making a relaxing sound.
5. The plants are simple and easy to maintain.
6. The cut Cedar fence smell delicious.
7. The entire garden is about 10 feet wide, and can fit into a city garden configuration. I love it!
Chimney bed

I couldn’t let this strip of irrigated soil go unused. I built it up with a couple of 10" cedar fence boards to hold more soil. Still can’t decide what to plant. (Probably herbs.) Sharon is against the idea of anything that climbs the chimney. She’s a keeper – so I’m not going to raise a stink…
Final Answer

We decided that the bricks looked too unstable, so we went with 9/16"x6"x8′ cedar fence slats instead.

In 20 years the cedar fence has weathered with lichen, and the fresh green shoots of a lilac bush seem almost the most complementary color I can imagine.
